About Me
I have been providing mental health services to children and youth in the Kingston area since receiving my Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Queen's University in 2008. For the first fifteen years of my practice, I worked in the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at Kingston Health Science Centre (KHSC). In August of 2023, I transferred to a position in the new KHSC Eating Disorders Day Treatment Program, allowing me to provide private practice services on Saturdays.
My experience includes providing direct clinical services to school-aged children and youth with a range of diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders. I have worked extensively with families, schools, community agencies, and other healthcare professionals. I have formal training and extensive experience in completing standardized assessments, as well as providing OT treatment and psychotherapy. In 2020, I also began running professional development workshops for the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, on the topics of implementing the best practice guidelines for ADHD, and practical strategies for anxiety management in children.
About OT
Occupational therapy is an evidence-based, client-centred, regulated health profession. Our goal is to help clients access, initiate, and sustain participation in the everyday, meaningful activities that occupy their time (their "occupations"). These activities can include a variety of tasks at home, at school, at work, or in the community. We work collaboratively with clients to set goals in order to help them complete the activities they want to do, need to do, or are expected to do.
For more information, please visit the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), or OT Ontario.
About Psychotherapy
The aim of psychotherapy is to help clients improve and/or maintain their mental health, using interventions that target thought patterns, emotions, behaviours, and social functioning. Occupational Therapy is one of the regulated health professions that is authorized to perform psychotherapy.
For more information, please see the Standards for Psychotherapy created by the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
